'For Those In Peril' From an original acrylic

The early craft used for ship rescue around the coast of
Britain were Fishing Smacks and Gigs crewed from local communities, but
unsuited for rescues from wallowing wrecks in heavy seas.
In 1790 the
first boat to be specifically designed for life saving, was built by Henry
Greathead.
The boat had a double ended hull with a curved keel, pulling
ten oars. It wasn't until 1838 that a winning design by Francis Adams, a boat
builder of St. Ives in Cornwall incorporated air tight vessels at each end for
bouyancy, this being the fore-runner of the self-righting design shown in my
painting.
I have donated this painting to the R.N.L.I.
Further
donations will be made on each print sold.
